Keeping the Spirit of Camping alive during lock down
While Australia was under strict instruction to stay at home over Easter, that didn’t stop everyone from dreaming – in fact far from it.
The Camp at Home Heroes campaign was designed to keep people connected to the camping lifestyle, give people something positive to talk about on social media and have a bit of fun during an otherwise tough time. Aussies were invited to set up their own home camping site – from inner city apartments, suburban blocks and large
The campaign gained great traction, a good news story and glimmer of hope at a time when it was pretty rough for many.
Yet another indicator of how much Aussies love travelling in their own back year is the success of the campaign Let’s Go Big Battle where iconic “big thing” attractions were put up against each other on the Let’s Go Caravan and Camping social media.
Definitely a conversation starter, this gained incredible social media traction and showed just how passionate Aussies are about the places they have visited or lived – including a shout out from the local Mayor about Cobar’s Big Beer Can making winning against Nyngan’s Big Bogan.
The COVID crisis has shaken so many operators, and while at times it may be hard to seek the positives, we are here to tell you that there is reason to be hopeful!
As Australians seek ways to safely leave their homes, find adventure and a way to escape realities, they will be looking for holiday options that are independent, in the great outdoors and allow them to get back to basics.
Caravan and camping is tipped to lead the road to recovery for regional tourism, there are already 711,000 recreational vehicles registered in Australia and there are reports of heavy spikes in caravan sales as Australians look to hit the road.
So, what’s next to promote the industry?
As Australians shift from the dreaming to planning stage, we are hard at work towards stimulating the market once again, there are a number of initiatives upcoming to support your business as we find the new normal.
- Look out in the coming months for our largest ever Marketing campaign designed to get people booking caravan park holidays and road trips as the state boarders ease.
- Your opportunity to get involved is coming up with an exciting cross-promotion between state associations and the national body around the chance for one lucky person who stays at a caravan holiday park or visits a caravan trade business to win $1 million.
